We are currently recruiting for a talented Quantity Surveyor near to Portsmouth to take the lead on an exciting new project starting in January 2020.
Works consists of five blocks of flats, some with concrete podium decks up to 5 floors.
Maintain and develop Galliford Try commercial processes and procedures and apply best practice and a continuous improvement approach, to maximise returns in terms of profit.
Manage, reduce and drive out unnecessary costs and inefficient activities.
Maximise cash flow through the timely preparation of valuations, submission of invoices and receipt of payment.
Manage the prompt preparation and settlement of final accounts, including variations, claims and disputes.
Manage the production of accurate and timely accounts for use in managing the business.
Manage the production of accurate and timely project financial forecasts for use in setting targets and managing the business.
Establish and maintain robust open and honest reporting structures and monitor resources and costs to ensure that the projects meet agreed targets.
Develop a thorough and in-depth understanding of the contractual, commercial, insurance and legal processes relating to the projects to ensure that Galliford Try’s position is protected.
Assist the Bid Team in the preparation and pricing of tenders for new work
Experience and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a reputation for integrity, maturity, and sound business judgment; be totally comfortable working in a team environment; and possess the creativity, commercial expertise, and commitment to successfully play an important role with the commercial and site teams.
You will bring a track record in working within a successful team which would include profit maximisation, robust financial, commercial acumen and a good understanding of risk.
You will have experience of working within the Construction industry for a main contractor, specifically on Design and Build, new build and refurbishment projects, as well as sound knowledge of JCT and NEC Conditions of Contract.
You will have experience of managing a team.
You will be degree qualified and member of the RICS or IOB (or moving towards professional membership).

OUR ENVIRONMENT BUSINESS
Our Environment business is made up of several frameworks spanning the country including the AMP framework with Southern Water, SR15 in Scotland with ESD and Scottish Water in addition to security frameworks on Southern and Thames water assets. We have some high value schemes currently in construction delivery on behalf of the Environment Agency in Burton on Trent and Scunthorpe which will run until March 2021 as well as our Telecoms business which spans the country providing infrastructure builds for the mobile and fixed line telecommunications industry.
As Quantity Surveyor you will maximise quality of service and profitability on the scheme
Measurement and valuation of works (on site and from drawings) for Valuations, Variations & Final Accounts by preparing detailed, accurate and orderly measurements in accordance with relevant measurement standards.
Measurement and valuation of subcontractors work for payment and Final Account purposes by agreement of subcontract valuations and completion of regular and timely payment certificates.
Recognising and advising Project Manager on delays, extensions of time and loss and/or expense and ensuring relevant notices are issued.
Ensuring adequate records are kept for the purposes of valuing variations and ascertaining loss and/or expense by maintaining records of resource allocation including labour, plant and materials and reviewing subcontract correspondence for delay and loss and/or expense claims.
Preparation of claim documentation & information for submission to Clients/ Consultants within required timescales.
Satisfying Client deadlines for estimates and quotations whilst applying principles of profit maximisation and protecting Companies interests.
Preparation of tender enquiry documents for the procurement of subcontractors and assist with the subcontract buyers through to placement of order.
Internal Valuations/CVRs and subcontract liability reports in accordance with schedule of accounting period end dates and deadlines

Role Overview: We have commenced construction of £12.6m Merchant Venturer’s Academy SEN Primary School in Bristol and have a need for a Design Manager to oversee the successful delivery of this project. The successful candidate will be quality focused, expected to manage the design deliverables to ensure compliance with Contract Requirements and through to commencement of work packages on site. Experience of Education and BIM Level 2 projects would be advantageous. The successful candidate will also have opportunity to work on other exciting projects across the SW region.
Key Responsibilities: Manage the design process on a bid or project in line with Galliford Try processes and procedures Identify / manage risk and opportunities on projects. Manage the develoment and production of the design proposals to be included within the contractor’s proposals documentation Appoint the design team and agree deliverables and appointment documentation Monitoring Design Progress in line with Pre-construction/ Construction programme Monitoring and reviewing Design Delivery in line with statutory and client requirements
Experience and Qualifications: Experience of working on tenders, identifying key risks and opportunities and producing documentation to be included within tender submission. Working with the Design Team to develop design deliverables and appointment documents. Experienced at Pre-construction and construction, monitoring and managing design progress in line with the procurement and construction requirements Knowledge and experience of using 4Projects at operational level is preferred. Knowledge and experience of BIM and the management of the BIM process. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate working collaboratively within teams both internally and with key stakeholders.
